APPLY FOR A STALL (deadline 21st March 2025)

Duplicate Publishing Fair invites artists, illustrators, zine makers and small-press publishers from Birmingham and beyond to congregate for two-days of DIY and indie publishing activity and distribution. The fair will welcome over 40 exhibitors in 2025 and a communal table will allow many more to share and sell their work.

Duplicate particularly encourages people, projects and works that address political and social issues to have a presence at the fair, especially in the face of increasing censorship in the arts.

Over the two days, a programme of free talks and workshops will invite people to explore self-publishing and to get involved. The fair is free to attend and open to all. The fair attracted over 700 people in 2024 and this year we’re hoping to make it even bigger!

Duplicate was started in 2019 by Gareth Proskourine-Barnett, Sofia Niazi and BAAAD Press.

Duplicate Publishing Fair returns in 2025 and will be held at Eastside Projects on Friday 2nd (4-8pm) and Saturday 3rd (12-5pm) of May. The fair is free to attend and open to all.

There will be a communal table for people with 1-2 zine titles to sell without any charge, drop off zines (up to 2 titles, maximum 5 copies of each, clearly labelled with the price) at Eastside Projects at 3.30pm on Friday 3rd May. Any unsold zines and money from sales must be collected by 5pm Saturday 4th, any uncollected money/zines will be donated to Duplicate. The communal table will be cash only.

Design for Palestine

Design for Palestine Birmingham Resistance Library x Print and Matter Friday 3rd May 4–8pm and Saturday 4th May 1–4pmGallery 2
A collection of Risograph posters made during a Palestine Activation Day Workshop in November 2023. The posters are designed by individuals and groups with graphics and text in the tradition of protest posters, the workshop was facilitated by Print and Matter. They convey messages of resistance and solidarity with Palestinians within the Occupied Lands and the Diaspora during the unfolding horrors and genocide.
Palestine Activation Days were set up by a group of creatives in Birmingham who sought to activate various communities in Balsall Heath and wider Birmingham. The activations included workshops, talks, screenings, political organising and community meals.
The work done during Palestine Activation Days has led to the formations of multiple groups including Birmingham Resistance Library, a library themed around Resistance and Social and Political Histories, Presents and Futures.

Punks for Palestine

Punks for Palestine – Zine collaboration fundraiser

A collection of artworks that contributed to the fundraiser zine Punks for Palestine; all proceeds from the zines sold went to the charity Medical Aid for Palestine. The zines were sold at the Bristol fundraiser gig of the same name back in Feb.

A drop-in session with pre-cut lino blocks of the letters D-U-P-L-I-C-A-T-E. Play around with arranging and re-arranging, inking and printing the blocks given. Use the letters to create new words and patterns. Suitable for all ages, may be messy!

Making Monsters

Communal Table: if you have one or two zines to sell, you are very welcome to bring them along to be sold on the communal table. Simply drop them off at the communal table at Eastside Projects at 3.30pm on Friday 2nd May (maximum two titles per person and up to 5 copies of each zine). Please ensure all your zines have price tags/stickers on them. Collect any money and unsold zines on Saturday 3rd May at 4.30pm. Any uncollected zines and money will be donated to Duplicate. The communal table is cash only.

Exhibtion

We are very excited to be hosting a poster exhibition at Duplicate this year! Print and Matter will be exhibiting posters from Art for the Faith Hearted in Gallery 2 over the two-day fair.

Art for the Faith Hearted is an exhibition and publication documenting, exploring and showcasing work produced during Print and Matter, an experimental art programme specially designed for Muslims in Birmingham wanting to explore connections between religious practice and art making. The publication will also be available to purchase at the fair.

Workshops

There will be a range of free workshops on both Friday 5th and Saturday 6th May, join-in and get creative! All workshops will take place in Gallery 2.

Friday 5th May
6-8pm ︎︎︎ Typography Collage (drop-in workshop)

Friday 6th May, 6-8pm Join Ruth Yeates from Purple Ladder Studios for a drop-in collage workshop. Using printed off letterpress typography, make new characters using the letterforms and punctuation. Drop by and have a play and let your imagination take the wheel! This workshop coincides with Digbeth First Friday.

Saturday 6th May

1-2pm ︎︎︎ Negative Space Drawing

Join illustrator Aleesha Nandhra for a drawing workshop focussing on negative space. You'll be guided through the process of building up a drawing from life by using negative space as your starting point, before adding line and detail to your image.

2-4pm ︎︎︎ Make a Collage (drop-in workshop)

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced collager, drop-in for an informal opportunity to cut, paste and create, The session will be playful and creative and participants will be encouraged to explore Duplicate Publishing Fair for inspiration.

Join artist Mahawa Keita from Print and Matter to learn different ways you can make a repeat pattern using handmade stamps, suitable for 5+.
